Bio

Hyunchae Kim majored in gayageum at Seoul National University, earning her B.A, M.A, and D.M.A. She is a government-certified trainee of National Cultural Heritage, Gayageum Sanjo & Byeongchang, and a winner of the Presidential Prize in the National Gayageum Competition in 2019. Her artistic voice is captured in her solo albums Gayageum Sanjo Hyunchae Kim (2010) and Hyunchae Kim Plays Music for Solo Gayageum by Hyo-shin Na (2021). Since 2023, Kim has been teaching and performing gayageum as an Artist in Residence at KPAC, while also promoting Korean music globally as a Visiting Artist at Stanford University (2023) and as a Guest Artist and Lecturer at Northern Illinois University (2025).
