Bio
When Soojin Lee immigrated from Korea to the United States, her academic path evolved from gayageum performance to ethnomusicology and eventually to music education, influenced both by her professors’ guidance and her family circumstances. After moving several times for her husband’s career and raising a child, she completed a doctorate in music education and ultimately built her professional life in Minnesota rather than returning to Korea. She now works as a resident artist at the MacPhail Center for Music, teaches gayageum and Korean music to thousands of students through school partnerships, and performs and collaborates across diverse musical genres.
